The ACMA Classical Orchestra’s annual Scholarship Fundraising Concert, held on February 5th and 6th, was an exciting performance enjoyed by the entire audience. Directed by the wonderful MaryAnn Campbell, the concert was definitely a concert not to be missed! The program was rather comprehensive, and included selections from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, as performed at the On a Winter’s Day concert back in December; themes from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, a ballet based on One Thousand and One Nights; Lunn’s Downton Abbey – The Suite, the theme from the hit TV show; Haydn’s Toy Symphony, complete with toys such as the cuckoo, nightingale, rattle, and triangle; and Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus”, featuring Chase Calloway as the anvil soloist. Members of Classical Alive!, ACMA’s chamber music group consisting of advanced musicians, had their own magnificent performances in the middle of the concert, beginning with Telemann’s “Triosonate” for the flute, oboe, and piano.

Following this was a remarkable duo featuring Connor Foubister on violin and Barry Fowler on viola, preceding Haydn’s “Quartet for Strings”. The collection ended with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto. Senior Kristina Laukakmene also performed and starred in Vivaldi’s “Winter and Spring” from Four Seasons, which will be the art component for her Senior Capstone.

Overall, the orchestra displayed enormous amounts of talent, hard work, and sweat in their concert. You can be sure to expect a lot more coming from this brilliant group of young musicians.
